Endless Summer of SPOA

Upcoming shows to raise funds for the Skate Park of Athens, Phase Two: Street Skate

Next up music benefit for the skate park, phase two:
Don’t miss our favorite video artist, songwriter, friend and sometimes-Thrasher Photo & Design-er,  Eddie Whelan and his Grass Giraffes, plus our pal and man about town, Josh Mckay with Abandon the Earth Mission on the roof of the Georgia Theatre on August 28th

Thrasher Photo & Design made the cool poster design based on Sam Davidson’s shhhhakin’ skater illustration, and of course to all the bands and the venues who have been involved so far in helping make skateboarding such a big part of our local community!

Happy Birthday to Jason Thrasher today!
He might be old, but he can still shred.

And with that… the Thrasher gang is full on with the Endless Summer of SPOA!

We are jumping on fundraising efforts, along with our great town of Athens-Clarke, its skaters, and those who love them, for Phase Two of the Skate Park of Athens. The Endless Summer is underway with art shows, auctions, and MUSIC! Stay tuned to SPOA’s Facebook page for details on rock shows coming up at Farm 255, Caledonia, 40 Watt, Georgia Theatre and Hotel Indigo, now through October.

Two of our Thrasher Photo & Design team, long-time TP&D editor/designer/illustrator Eddie Whelan of Grass Giraffes, and our newest-on-board webster Brantley Senn of Dead Confederate will play shows for SPOA. Plus our favorite clients, the Futurebirds (yes, we built their web site!) have signed on (right, Jay?!) PLUS dozens more Athens bands including Twin Tigers, Abandon the Earth Mission, Thayer Serrano, Manray, Tater Zandra (we’ll post the full list here real soon) . We already thought they were all awesome humans, but now, we think they’re even better.

Check out some of the boards created for the Endless Summer of SPOA’s Board Room show at Hotel Indigo featured on the cover of Flagpole this week! The Board Room is up through the summer of 2012 at Hotel Indigo’s gallery, with an auction of the boards to benefit the Skate Park in early fall.

And go check out the photo show, Concrete Culture, at Cine through July 18, featuring skate photos by 6 Athens photographers (see the list below!) plus our friend David Franklin from SF who’s spent some time skating and shooting here in Athens (check out some of Dave’s photos for this cool SF mag, the Bold Italic.)

PLUS Marilyn Estes wrote a great article about the Skate Park of Athens’ Summer of SPOA for Flagpole. Check it out here.

Or you can download the Flagpole spread here.

Stay tuned for details on the Endless Summer of SPOA benefit shows…
