About Thrasher
Photo +Design
Beth and Jason have been working together since they met—first, on the tours for Beth’s Short Attention Span Film & Video Festival and Jason’s UNDERSKATEMENT skateboarding film festival, then on the startup they created in Los Angeles to showcase super-short films online, before YouTube and Vimeo were a thing. When they got back home to Athens, they used their DIY fundraising and promotional skills to help get the world-class Skate Park of Athens built.
Not too long after, Thrasher Photo + Design was born.
“Over the years, we’ve had the privilege of working with an ever-growing network of talented creatives on projects from Athens to Atlanta, New York to San Francisco and beyond. We’re so grateful to the Athens, Georgia community, and for the exciting work we get to do for our clients.”
“We love using our creative skills to help clients meet their goals- no matter how high they aim.”

Beth Hall Thrasher
Creative Director
Beth Hall Thrasher’s work as an art director for television at NHK-Tokyo, CNN-Headline News in Atlanta, and CBS in San Francisco won her an Emmy Award and two Broadcast Designers Association and Radio-Television News Directors Awards for Art Direction; her experience as an interactive designer started with gigs for Electronic Arts and Apple in California; her web designs have garnered an Earl Award at the prestigious SXSW Interactive Conference and a NAPA Award for Outstanding Web Design; and her most recent print designs for Soldier of the Sea Distillery- a partner project with her illustrator daughter, Frances- were awarded two GDUSA Package Design Awards last year. Beth is also the founder of the Short Attention Span Film and Video Festival which toured curated programs of super-short films internationally for more than ten years; the collection of more than 600 films was accepted into the Walter J. Brown Media Archives & Peabody Awards Collection in 2025.
Beth was the day-to-day manager of UGA’s downtown tech incubator, The Athens New Media Synergy Center, in the early 2000s where she helped entrepreneurs write business plans, secure funding and grow their companies quickly. She has served on the boards of the Athens Economic Development Foundation, the Athens Small Business Loan Review Committee and her favorite local charity, Nuçi’s Space. Beth is also a Clarke County School District Work Based Learning Partner where she has mentored graphic design students each fall for the past four years. She lives in Athens, GA with her photographer husband Jason, two daughters and two rescue dogs.

“Beth is the primary reason why my business grew so successfully over the years! I first met her family of artists back in 2005 when Mermaid Cottages was just an idea. Within a few months, Beth built my first website and designed our t-shirts and postcards, her sister Louise created the fabulous mermaid logo known far and wide today, and her husband Jason took photos of the original cottages. Beth created the online strategy that we use to this day, and what I love most is how she seamlessly empowered my local staff to take over from there.“

Jason Thrasher
Director of Photography
(706) 380-7778
Jason Thrasher’s body of work on the rich and varied Athens music scene, Athens Potluck, is now on permanent installation on the third floor of the new Akins Ford Arena and was previously on view at the Georgia Theatre Gallery in downtown Athens for five years, and featured in the solo retrospective, Athens Potluck, at UGA’s Special Collections Library. Published in book form, and awarded Georgia Author of the Year by The Georgia Writers Association, Athens Potluck sold out and is now out of print. His new book, Murmur Trestle, is available from UGA Press. Thrasher's portraiture has been published in Rolling Stone, Billboard, New York Magazine, New York Times, The Bitter Southerner, Entertainment Weekly, Paste, Garden & Gun, Nylon, USA Today and SPIN, and his photography is featured in the album designs of the Drive-By Truckers, Patterson Hood, Booker T., Randall Bramblett, Cracker, David Lowery, Blackberry Smoke and Bad Religion— to name just a few. His fine art photography has been exhibited at the Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport in Atlanta, the ICA in London, Yerba Buena Arts Center in San Francisco, Ogden Museum of Southern Art in New Orleans, Corcoran Gallery of Fine Art in Washington, DC, the Atlanta Contemporary Arts Center, and The Mercury Gallery and ATHICA in Athens.

“I’ve worked with Jason Thrasher many times over the years, both solo and with my band, Drive-By Truckers. He is one of our favorite photographers. He’s also a fantastic cinematographer and director— he’s an all-around great artist.”

Frances Thrasher
Illustrator & Photographer
Frances Thrasher’s original illustrations have represented on everything from the Soldier of the Sea Distillery’s multi-award-winning and super colorful whiskey labels, to the adorable pets from The Search is Rover, to album art for rock stars like Patterson Hood of the Drive-By Truckers. If we need original illustration, Frances is our resident expert!
She is also great photographer with a special bent for catching the finest of details on every shoot. Most recently, she could be found photographing for Thrasher Photo + Design at a gorgeous Madison, GA wedding and at a UGA pre-game event with Hairy Dawg.
Frances is currently presenting her original artworks in oil, watercolor, and ceramics at the ACE / FRANCISCO Gallery on October 16th, 2025; this is her second solo show. Frances has had a very busy three years since her first 2022 sold-out solo show— with work presented in The Lyndon House 50th Juried Exhibition, curated by Michael Rooks / Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art at the High Museum in Atlanta, and in the Southworks OCAF Juried Exhibition, curated by Savannah’s Telfair Museum Curator, Erin Dunn— along with a Badge of Honor awarded for the animated film she made for Patterson Hood’s (of the Drive-By Truckers) new song, “The Pool House,” at the Berlin Music Video Awards. Her widely discussed album cover art for Hood’s new solo release, Exploding Trees & Airplane Screams garnered media coverage in the January 2025 issue of UNCUT in the UK with a spread about the artist and her work entitled “Teenage Lobotomy,” along with further discussion of her album art in Americana UK, Magnet Magazine, Forbes, Pitchfork, Flagpole, and more.

“Frances Thrasher is 100% why we won those GDUSA Package Design Awards for Soldier of the Sea. The owners of the distillery and I would get a really farfetched idea like, ‘let’s draw a ghost tree’ or ‘a luna moth flying over the moon,’ and she would just make it happen. And don’t get me started on those tiny, historically accurate military swords. I really don’t know how she does it! And I love that the illustrations were created with actual pen and paper. I think organic illustration really does make a big difference, and it’s becoming a lost art.”

Louise Haynes Hall
Branding & Print Manager
Beth Hall Thrasher’s sister, Louise Haynes Hall, hails from Charleston, SC and has decades of experience with print design and branding, and she is an expert in the print process— from knowing which inks work best and how they interact, to paper selection, to expert printer prep and interface. We first worked with Louise on the Mermaid Cottages project, and she’s been advising us on print projects ever since. We are excited to have Louise on the Thrasher Photo + Design team! Whether you need a quick brochure or a complicated book designed, we are happy to help. See just a few of her designs, below.

“My sister Louise became a killer print designer in Beaufort while I was off doing web design in California. It has been so cool to team up with her on bigger projects where I really need someone with a trained eye to weigh in on branding or logo design, and as far as pre-press and the print process goes, she is what you call a walking-talking expert.”
